Job Title:  Machinist

Reports to:  Lead                                                                           

Position Objective: Develop and utilize new and existing methods of machining to drive improvements in the machining area including efficiencies, core competencies, and machine utilization.

Essential Functions of the Job (listed in order of importance):

  • Create new programs to meet existing and new customer requirements
  • Modify existing programs for standardization, efficiency gains and machine utilization
  • Test new programs for lead verification and implement when received
  • Review new machining requirements to determine best path forward and implement with lead verification
  • Drive and participate in improvement projects specifically related to programming and machining competency development
  • Set-up machine to run job order including selection of tools and fixtures, verification of program, and documentation review (drawings, job packet, router, etc.)
  • Run machine to complete job order including making adjustments/modifications to the program as needed
  • Measure and inspect completed parts to customer requirements and department standards
  • Prepare finished product for next production operation or shipment as needed including washing, wrapping, packaging, etc.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements based on each operation
  • Complete all required production paperwork in a timely and accurate manner

 Marginal Job Functions

  • Participate in and support improvement projects within production environment
  • Assist in other cells as required, i.e. assembly, surface treatment, etc.
  • Maintain tooling area in appropriate manner

Skills Required to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  • Ability to complete assigned functions in a time sensitive/variable environment (low volume/high variability)
  • Ability to interact with others both verbally and in writing to meet the position objective
  • Ability to apply common sense and logic in the resolution of problems
  • Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes to complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to communicate with others ensuring the comprehension of the other party
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, reports, other documentation to meet position objectives, i.e. blueprints, bill of materials, routers, etc.
  • Ability to make adjustment and modifications to G and M code to complete job order
  • Ability to determine the tools and accessories needed to complete job order
  • Knowledge of material differences and ability to apply when completing job order
  • Knowledge of various manual and CNC machines and ability to operate all efficiently with minimal downtime
  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard measurement equipment to complete essential functions
  • Ability to apply advanced math skill and knowledge of metric and standard conversions
  • Ability to operate with competing demands ensuring customer satisfaction (internal and external)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use established technology including hardware and software (computers, tablets, ERP/MRP software, MS Office products)
  • Ability to provide and accept feedback from peers and management in a professional manner

 Educational Requirements Needed to Perform the Duties of the Job:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two to five years previous industrial machine operation or manufacturing experience; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

 Weight Lifting (OR OTHER PHYSICAL) Requirements to Perform the Duties of the job:

  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and talk or hear
  • Frequently required to walk; sit, reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel or crouch
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance
  • Regularly required to use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly required to use PPE which may include; safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, full face shield, lab coat, dust mask, respirator or other protection deemed necessary for assigned tasks
